Darlene T. Brown, FNP, PMHMP
Darlene was born in Florida but at 19 moved to Maine married and raised her son there. She returned to Florida by sailboat with her husband and after a year cruising the islands they lived aboard for 5 years. She started her nursing career later than some, in her early 40’s and after a year in oncology at Mayo returned to school at University of Florida to obtain her Master’s Degree in Nursing in Family Practice. After 10 years working as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner, serving the primary care needs of Northeast Florida in Yulee, she became more interested in the psychiatric needs of her clients due to the shortage of psychiatric providers in the area. Since then she has worked in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient, in-person and remote, state hospitals, addiction treatment, and crisis intervention. After a little more than a year of traveling with locum tenens positions she decided it was time to return home. She enjoys scuba diving in her leisure time and working with her rescue dog who has proven to be therapeutic with severely depressed, anxious, as well as schizophrenic clients.
